APAC Healthcare Providers Losing $23m to Cyber Attacks
As more healthcare organizations in the Asia-Pacific region go beyond digitization and focus more on innovation, it has become critical to build a strong digital foundation underpinned by security and compliance. However, despite being high-profile targets, healthcare organizations appear to be ill-equipped to mitigate and respond to cyber threats.
The call to shore up cybersecurity comes amid several high profile cyber attacks.
US Government Committed to Boosting AI Technology
A recently signed US executive order directs federal agencies to prioritize and set aside funding for AI programs while opening up the way for researchers and developers to access more government data. The order comes two years after China announced a detailed plan to become a global leader in AI. Other countries, including South Korea, Canada and France, have also made major AI commitments.
The executive order is light on details but ambitious in its mission.
Researchers Identify Chinks in Utility Cybersecurity Armour
More interaction between utilities and their regulatory commissions is needed in order to combat cybersecurity vulnerabilities within electric grids, a new study recommends. Researchers briefed the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) about their study analyzing cybersecurity within electric grids. The report was conducted in a response to a US Intelligence warning that Russia and other countries are infiltrating the US electrical distribution network.

Huawei Confirms South African Cloud Service
Huawei has announced the launch of their first ‘availability zone’ for South African cloud services for March 2019. According to Huawei, 85% of enterprise applications will be deployed to the cloud by 2025. The company will focus on increasing regional presence in South Africa before moving onto other countries in Africa.

Security Still Top Concern for Cloud Computing
A recent survey of 100 IT professionals indicated that 72% found security to be a top concern when moving to the cloud. Despite the concerns, almost 70 percent of organizations today claim to be utilizing some degree of cloud infrastructure.
The survey highlights that cybersecurity and compliance are crucial considerations when moving to the cloud.
Internet of Things Community Announces the 3rd Annual IoT Slam
The IoT Community®, (the world’s largest community of IoT professionals) has announced a call for papers for the next installment of the IoT Slam. The IoT Slam is a conference focused on established and emerging IoT technology providers and practitioners, providing them with an opportunity to learn from one another. Core themes being covered include analytics and big data, AI, and security.
The conference is also delivered in real-time via virtual broadcast.
