AWS Launches New Region in Hong Kong
Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced the opening of the AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region.
Starting today, developers, startups, and enterprises, as well as government, education, and non-profit organizations can leverage the new AWS Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Region to run their applications locally, serve end-users across Hong Kong with lower latency, and leverage advanced technologies from the world’s leading cloud with the broadest and deepest suite of cloud services to drive innovation.

Canada’s Privacy Watchdog Taking Facebook to Court
Canada’s federal privacy watchdog plans to take Facebook to court following an investigation that found the social media giant broke a number of privacy laws and failed to take responsibility for protecting Canadians’ personal information.
“Canadians are at risk because the protections offered by Facebook are essentially empty,” said Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien after releasing a blistering report into the company’s operations.
The report estimates about 87 million users worldwide had their information disclosed, including more than 600,000 Canadians.
Ford Tasks AWS with Underpinning Its City Data Platform
Ford has contracted AWS to provide the backbone of its nascent Transportation Mobility Cloud project; a cloud-based infrastructure platform capable of managing information flow and “basic transactions” for cities — from service providers, personal vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, and mass transit systems to city infrastructure.
The automotive giant is making a major push into smart city services.
Britain Lets Huawei Into Part of Its 5G Networks
Britain will allow Huawei Technologies a restricted role in building parts of its 5G network, seeking a middle way in a bitter dispute between the United States and China over the next generation of communications technology.
Britain will block Huawei from all core parts of the 5G network and access to non-core parts would be restricted, two security sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
