FuseForward Solution Architect Dr. Cathy Pickering is set to showcase the utility of the future at the Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities (AMEU) Technical Convention, in Cape Town from October 14-16.
Cathy will present an overview of her whitepaper “The Utility of the Future” to South African electrical engineers and utility managers attending the event. The paper outlines an innovative approach to the generation and delivery of electricity—combining distributed power networks, IoT devices and the cloud to create an “Intelligent Utility.”
Benefits of Smart Utilities
The new approach is set to bring a raft of benefits to South African electricity providers, including improved demand management and an increase in power generated from renewable energy sources.
“Currently more than 90% of South Africa’s power is generated by thermal power stations, with only 8% generated from renewable sources. Meanwhile, electricity providers also struggle to meet demand” says Cathy.
“New technology can improve demand management and access to renewable energy sources but developing this can be a challenge for resource-strapped utilities. We are providing access to this technology through our Intelligent Utility Pilot Project, which gives utilities the chance to trial and prove the solution.”
In addition to intelligent technology solutions, FuseForward provides cloud migration and management services, security and consulting for both public sector and enterprise customers. We are an Advanced Technology Partner and Select Consulting Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN), and are staffed by a team of AWS certified engineers.
