AWS Ground Station; 90% IoT Unencrypted

Each week we’ll bring you an overview of the latest news in cloud computing, cybersecurity and industrial IoT over the past seven days. This week we’re focused on AWS Ground Station and unencrypted data from IoT devices.

AWS Launches the General Availability of AWS Ground Station

AWS Ground Station is a fully managed service that lets you control satellite communications, process data, and scale your operations without having to worry about building or managing your own ground station infrastructure.

Once customers upload satellite commands and data through AWS Ground Station, they can quickly download large amounts of data over the high-speed AWS Ground Station network and immediately process it on their own AWS cloud system.

Over 90% of Data Transactions on IoT devices Are Unencrypted

A study that looked at millions of connections from IoT devices integrated on enterprise networks found that over 40% of them do not encrypt their traffic. This means a large number of such devices are exposed to man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks where hackers in a position to intercept traffic can steal or manipulate data.
